“Having a dog will bring you the best years of your life, and one of the worst days.”
Arlo “Honey” Ren August 11, 2016-April 8, 2026
With owning two giant breed dogs, we always knew that day would come, but never did we imagine how truly heartbreaking it would be.
Arlo and Audi have been together for almost a decade. Arlo, Arlo Ren, Arlosy, Honey Bear, Sissy sweetie was always a sneaky dog, and very good at hiding things- sticks, toys, treats, clothes, shoes, parts of the recycling- and unfortunately for us- an extremely rare and aggressive cancer.
Arlo fought and battled a painful and aggressive cancer for months that no one could see. It had metastasized throughout her lungs, lymph nodes, brain, and eyes. It was a silent killer.
We had to make the extremely difficult decision yesterday to let her go into her forever sleep, surrounded by her big brother, and mom and dad.
Arlo had an amazing 9.5 years on this Earth. She was a rescue from Northern Alberta and was eating a deceased wolf when we found her. She was a wild little thing! She went on to trial in scent detection, agility, and went everywhere with us- all through BC and Alberta.
She loved being outside in her backyard, in my garden beds, digging holes in our backyard, on top of picnic tables to guard her yard, in the snow, ocean, and on all the furniture. But most of all- she loved being a little sister to Audi and a big sister to the only child she ever liked, Emmy.
Arlo spent her last day spending time by the ocean and outside in her yard, eating cheeseburgers, ice cream, treats, turkey, bones, and even a bit of chocolate.
While our hearts are absolutely devastated, we take great comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. Audi and Arlo spent a combined 7-8 nights in total away from each other throughout their lives, always inseparable.
We love you Arlo Honey Ren. We will miss you for the rest of our lives. Thank you for the absolute privilege to be your humans and spending your life with us, we will miss you for the rest of ours.
