Today was my first full day without my Boomer in a decade and it has been so difficult. From when I first started waking up I immediately sensed he was not right beside me cuddling. This boy has always kept one eye on me and stayed close. If I am sitting still he is leaning against me so heavy as if he could never get close enough.
From a little baby he was always the best boy. Never liked being outside much, preferred things super clean. One time in the middle of a zoomie he stuffed his face right into my clean laundry and took a big wiff! He hated camping, winter, swimming, ropes, metal bowls, nail polish but loved keeping a schedule of 9pm bedtime, sitting in the sun, running and sniffing at the beach chewing food really well, fluffing his bed and turning a million times before settling if he wasn’t right against me. He also really enjoyed just watching things from a safe distance. I miss his awkwardness too. We actually called him Mr. Awkward his eye body coordination was always a little off as he clumsily jumped into places he didn’t fit but squished in there anyway.
He pranced around the house all day. I didn’t realize how much noise his prancing around made as his paws hit the floor and his collar made a little jingle until I sat on the couch today and realized how silent it is without him. I miss his happy dance when I come home from work. I”m not looking forward to the cold bed tonight when i turn in. I would give anything to hug his little body right now.
When Boomer was a puppy we loved him so much, as he aged that love compounded. I had no idea how much more I could love my senior doggo. The way he permanently pressed his lips together and squinted his eyes as if he was some old wise mentor.
I miss Boomer terribly already but I am really happy that it went the way that it did. I’m so grateful for Resting Paws to come give my boy the best goodbye he deserves in the comfort of his own home while eating his last meal I made him. Even though it hurts so bad and its never long enough. I am actually so grateful he was surrounded by us and his nephew as he breathed his last breath. Thank you Dr. Megan, Heather and the rest of the team at Resting Paws for helping my boy over the rainbow bridge. I hope to see half this amount of love again before its my time too.
This dog provided more to me in his short lifespan than I could even imagine. He really deserved the best of everything ever.
