Please send us an email if you would like to honour your pet’s memory.
Rufus
I want to thank you Vanessa and your team for what was a truly transformational experience with Rufus Tuesday. He was so calm and his passing so peaceful. We all felt extremely supported and this made what could have been one of the worst days for us, a day we can remember as compassionate and comforting.
The candle and poem are sitting with photos of him and his collar tags on a remembrance alter. This has also made these last few days more meaningful.
Thank you again for your truly incredible hospice service. It was more than we could have hoped for.
Dexter
It is with the saddest hearts that we said goodbye to sweet Dexter. He was just shy of 17 years old and lived an amazingly full and wonderful life. With his unbelievably calm and cautious demeanor he openly welcomed our growing family over the years. He napped with brand new babies, patrolled high chairs for years waiting for castoffs, wore silly birthday hats, shared his dog beds with babies, toddlers, and teens, went camping, attended hockey tournaments all over the province, and loved his family with all his heart. He was always a lazy dog who preferred to lounge in the yard under a shady tree and would frequently quit on long hikes and simply lay down or start heading to the car, whether we were done or not. As we reflect back on the past 17 years, we see how much we’ve been through with our amazing boy by our sides. He will be missed more than words can convey. He brought us lifetimes worth of joy and showed us what unconditional love truly looks like. Till we meet again, we will miss him every day.
Anakin
Anakin was the best little kitty anyone could ever ask for. Anakin loved riding on his mom’s shoulders no matter what she was doing, or napping with his dad no matter what time of day it was. He loved kisses, cuddles, and cantaloupe. Anakin could make anything into a bed but his favourite was his banana bed. He made everyone happy. He was such a good boy. We love you so much Anakin. You will be greatly missed by your family and daycare kids. Forever in our hearts.
Sophie
To Dr. Vanessa, Zoe, and the entire Resting Paws team:
Thank you for the kindness and compassion on Sophie’s last day.
Here is a picture of Sophie at Elk Lake. Sophie loved walks, playing with other dogs and treats. She was a wonderful dog and we miss her so much.
Torino
My little darling, sweet pea – Reno.
You taught me so much during our short time together, including patience, slowing down, and seeing all the beauty in going slow—the little things that normally get missed at a faster pace.
You came into my life when I needed this lesson. You needed me, too, and that meant so much to me, so much more than I could have ever known when we first met. Being your guardian was an honor and brought me so much joy.
You were silly, sweet, and spicy! And oh – so brave. You had a true heart of gold – unafraid of stepping forward even when it was hard. Your confidence and unrelenting forgiveness of human weakness meant you were able to open your heart when you joined our family.
Dear Torino, thank you for your sweetness, you captured my heart so completely and in the days after you left us life feels dull and lacking. But I have hope, I know you are at peace now, and your strength and resilience give me comfort now as we face a future without your bright soul in our home. Time will go on but you will always remain in my heart, and I will be forever grateful for the time we had together. Rest in peace my little darling.
Love always – mama.
Lucy
“We now have Lucy-sized (read: very big!) holes in our hearts that will take some time to fill. She was absolutely adored and left paw prints on many of our souls. Lucy will be remembered by her impressive range of baritone vocal cords, affectionate purrs, and take no 💩 (from her German Shepherd sissy) attitude. Lucy defied many medical odds over the years and showed remarkable resilience while enjoying an abundant life! We’re sure she’s devouring an endless feast of lickable treats up above now that the pain has passed.
Lucy will be forever cherished via the thousands of photos we have on our phones, and of course the countless memories from our 13 years with her. Can’t believe we won’t be opening the patio door for you anymore. May you rest in peace, Little Lu. We love you so much.”
K.C.
Beautiful K.C. forever in our hearts.
Mika
“ Everyone who knew Mika loved him, or he forced them to love him, a true master of receiving snuggles and getting pets. He always knew when to show up with his irresistible presence. His loud vocal cords will echo in our hearts, from his demanding meows to his cute food begging. Mika brought fun chaos and endless affection into our lives for 19 years, and he will be deeply missed.
RIP sweet Mika”
Salty
Saltarella De Medici (Salty) was humanely set free of her pain by Dr. Vanessa and Heather from Resting Paws Veterinary Hospice, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge at her home on January 4, 2025, surrounded and comforted by her family (Rhonda, Bruce, Lyndsay and Shannon). Salty was born on November 17, 2008 at De Medici Poodles in Chemainus, BC, to parents Ellie May and Leonardo (Lenny). We had the good fortune to visit there just over two weeks after Salty and her siblings were born, and we truly believe that on that day she chose us as her forever family just as much as we chose her. We brought Salty home on January 10, 2009, and had 16 wonderful years with her, as a loved and cherished family member.
Among other things, Salty loved RV trips and car rides, swimming, walks where she could sniff every tree along the way, chasing sticks and balls, playing in the snow, looking out the window, and especially treats! Unfortunately, in her last few months she lost a lot of strength in her back legs/hips, as well as much of her eyesight and hearing, and was unable to enjoy many of those activities anymore (except the last one!). She remained a trouper to the end, and although she was on arthritis and joint pain medication, it became obvious that her quality of life was deteriorating, and we had to make the agonizing decision to let her go. We are so thankful that she was a part of our lives and she will never be forgotten. Now transitioned into spirit, we know that we will still feel her presence.
Vegas
“Thank you Vegas for 16 amazing years, you meant so much to us. We feel so blessed you joined our family and will miss you with all our hearts. Rest easy my friend”
Walter
Our little lion. With complex health needs and blind since birth, Walter was literally enveloped in love (from mum) and ‘calibrated risk taking’ (from dad) which collectively included innumerable family snuggles, garden explorations at Gramma and Grandpas, bubble baths (!!!), road trips to the Prairies, lazy afternoons ‘listening’ to football or ‘helping’ mum as she cooked aromatic dinners.
Your percolating purrs a.k.a ‘purrbulating’ will be sorely missed along with all the routines and rituals that made our home, well, a home. We take solace in knowing you are no longer uncomfortable, so our many tears are of relief and finitude.
Whether we rescued you, or you rescued us, will be a point of meowing debate.
Sleep well little lion. Sleep well.
Baxter
Baxter, a sweet and joyful companion who embraced the outdoors with boundless energy and brought so much happiness into my life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in my heart.
Bandit
Forever cherished and deeply missed, sweet Bandit, your memory will live on in our hearts.
Farley
Our sweet, gentle, wise, curious sir Farley. We miss your ever presence here. Find new trails, meet new friends, chase what moves, sleep in the shade. You have led the way, as you always loved to do. Until we see you again, we are never far apart. Farewell kindred friend.
Hugo
In loving memory of Hugo (a.k.a. Hugo Beans)♥️🐾
Hugo was a beautiful soul who loved adventures with his family, searching for treats, and cuddling.
He loved sitting by the ocean listening to the waves, feeling the beach sand squish between his little toes, sniffing in the soft green grass, and making friends with cats.
Hugo was there with us through big celebrations and huge losses.
He taught us what unconditional love truly feels like, how to play, and how to appreciate the little things.
For 16.5 years, I was blessed to have him as a best friend and grateful to be able to spend each day together.
He is greatly missed, but his presence is still felt in the comforts of home, in the warm sunshine, and always in our hearts.
We love you, Hugo.♥️
Roxie
To sum Roxie up in a few words is extremely hard. She was amazing on so many levels, extremely loyal, faithful, fierce but loving. If you were lucky to be loved by her, she knew how to let you know. She was goofy and made us laugh constantly; she was our southern belle. She had a huge impact on the world and will be truly missed.
Jabberwocky
Jabberwocky was a sweet, sassy girl who loved heated blankets, belly rubs, crinkle toys, and dressing up in pretty outfits. She was happiest when she was by my side and followed me everywhere she could.
Jabberwocky was my first cat, my best friend, and my soul cat. I’ll miss her so much. It’s incredibly painful knowing she’ll never crawl into my arms again, that I’ll never again pet her soft fur or feel her gentle paw on my arm.
Thank you for your love and companionship for 18 years, Jabber. You are forever in my heart. Go play in all the sunbeams, sweetest girl. I’ll leave space for you on the heated blanket.
Rajjah
Rajjah was a true friend and loving friendly cat to his family who loved him with all their hearts. He was adopted from the BC SPCA in Victoria at age 11, and lived with his family for 13 years.
He loved sitting on his favorite chair listening to the sounds of nature.on his favorite chair outside on his balcony. He loved to be serenaded to and he would happily curl up and listen to his favorite songs that were sung to him in guitar.
He is dearly missed , and forever remembered by everyone who came into his life.
He was a brave and beautiful cat that woke up each morning and waited for a hug.
We miss you our dear Rajjah
Geisha
Geisha
2009-2024
My little girly, my joy, my comfort, my shop steward. You always knew when someone needed your closeness, and your quiet presence eased many difficult moments. Thank you for all the snuggles… now you can rest in the lap that never needs to get up to pee.
May the long time sun shine upon you,
all love surround you,
and the pure light within you,
guide your way on.
Chewy
We will miss our beautiful little girl Chewy, you will be in our thoughts all the time.
Nugget
Nugget came to Dr. Vanessa 17 years ago as an orphaned kitten who required bottle feedings around the clock. She grew into the purrfect companion who filled our lives with so much joy and warmth 😻She was the queen of drooling while purring, a sunbathing beauty with an odd, but adorable, obsession with bananas 🍌 She will be missed dearly 💔
Rest in peace sweet Nugget. You have surely left paw prints on the hearts of so many 🐾
Begley
This guy came into our lives on December 29, 2010…we had him for almost exactly 13 years. We will miss him so much. He was the best companion and fur brother to our daughter. He was a great walking partner to his dad. He was the best coworker for myself…he was by my side all day everyday for 13 years. He was the best photoshoot dog despite being all black and hard to light..he willingly wore costumes and always knew the exact spot to sit for the ‘dog’ in any family photo. He was a 70lb lap dog but always asked to get on the couch before jumping up. He survived cancer twice and gave us 13 amazing years. We are missing him so much already. We have so many wonderful memories. We are so grateful that he was able to be at home with us for his final moments. Thank you Dr. Vanessa.
Mystic
In loving memory of our sweet and special, Mystic, who brought so much joy and love to our lives. She passed peacefully while laying on my lap (her favourite place to be). I’m so grateful that I had 18 years with her sassy little attitude. Rest peacefully my sweet Mystic.
